PiggyVest: Interest Rates, Withdrawal Rules and Is It Safe

8 min read

PiggyVest is Nigeria's leading savings and investment app, used by millions to save automatically, lock funds for higher interest and invest. This 2026 guide explains what PiggyVest is and whether it's safe, the savings products and their interest rates, the withdrawal rules and penalties, Investify investments, Flex Dollar savings, the fees and minimums, how to sign up and how to reach support.

What is PiggyVest and is it safe?

PiggyVest is a savings and investment platform. On safety: its investment funds are managed by PV Capital Limited, which is registered and regulated by the SEC in Nigeria, and user savings are held with CBN-licensed partner banks, providing NDIC insurance coverage up to ₦5 million per depositor. So your savings sit in regulated, insured bank accounts, while investments (Investify) carry the risk of the underlying asset. That combination of SEC oversight and NDIC-insured savings is why PiggyVest is trusted by so many Nigerians.

Savings products and interest rates

PiggyVest offers several savings products, each with a different rate and purpose:

ProductInterest (p.a.)Best for
PiggyBank18%Automated everyday savings
SafeLockup to 22%Locking funds for a fixed period
Target Savings12%Saving toward a specific goal
Flex Naira12%Emergency / liquid funds
HouseMoney14%Rent and bills

SafeLock pays the most (up to 22%) because you commit the money for a set term; PiggyBank's 18% rewards disciplined automated saving; Flex Naira keeps funds liquid at 12%. You can mix products to match each savings goal.

Withdrawal rules and penalties

The rules differ by product, and this is where people get caught out:

  • PiggyBank: free withdrawals on a custom date you set, or on four default quarterly dates — 31 March, 30 June, 30 September and 31 December. Withdrawing outside those dates incurs an immediate 3.5% penalty;
  • SafeLock: breaking a lock (only permitted after 90 days for maturity-interest locks) carries a 5% penalty and forfeits your interest;
  • Target Savings: early withdrawal carries a 1% fee and interest forfeiture;
  • Flex Naira: you get 4 free withdrawals a month; exceeding that cancels your interest for the entire month.

The takeaway: pick the product whose rules match how soon you'll need the money, so you keep your interest and avoid penalties.

Investify: higher returns, higher risk

Through Investify, PiggyVest gives access to pre-vetted investments in fixed-income assets, real estate, agriculture and commercial papers, with potential returns of up to 35% per annum. Crucially, Investify deals are not NDIC-insured like savings — they carry the risk profile of the underlying asset, so returns aren't guaranteed and your capital can be at risk. Use Investify for money you can afford to invest, and keep your emergency funds in the insured savings products.

Flex Dollar: saving in US dollars

Flex Dollar lets you hedge against Naira devaluation by saving in US dollars, earning interest of up to 7% per annum. You can fund it with a Naira debit card and withdraw your funds to a dollar-denominated domiciliary account (which attracts a small processing fee). For Nigerians worried about the Naira losing value, Flex Dollar is a simple way to hold part of your savings in USD.

Fees and minimum amounts

PiggyVest is cheap to use: it charges zero account-maintenance or deposit fees (the only charges are the early-withdrawal penalties above and small processing fees on dollar withdrawals). The minimums are low, so anyone can start:

  • PiggyBank automated savings: from as little as ₦50 daily;
  • SafeLock: from ₦1,000;
  • Investify: from ₦5,000;
  • Flex Dollar: from just $1.

How to sign up and use PiggyVest

Signing up is done in the app: download PiggyVest, register with your email and phone number, set a secure password, and complete your profile and KYC (BVN and ID) to unlock full features and higher limits. Then fund your account by card or bank transfer and choose a product — for most people, automating a small daily or monthly amount into PiggyBank is the easiest way to build a savings habit, with SafeLock for money you want to put out of reach at a higher rate.

PiggyVest customer care

You can reach PiggyVest support via in-app chat, email at support@piggyvest.com, or phone at 0700 933 933 933. Be aware that resolution times for standard disputes or queries are typically reported at 24 to 72 hours, so raise issues early and keep your transaction references. As always, never share your password, OTP or PIN with anyone claiming to be from PiggyVest.

Is PiggyVest worth using in 2026?

For saving and growing money in Nigeria, PiggyVest is one of the strongest options: SEC-regulated investments, NDIC-insured savings up to ₦5 million, competitive rates (PiggyBank 18%, SafeLock up to 22%), a dollar-savings option, and no maintenance fees. The main things to manage are the withdrawal rules — use the free PiggyBank dates, don't break a SafeLock early, and stay within Flex Naira's 4 free monthly withdrawals — and to remember that Investify is an investment, not insured savings. Used with those rules in mind, PiggyVest is an excellent home for both your emergency fund and your longer-term savings goals.
